This isn’t about making AI sound smarter. It’s about making it more useful.

For the first time, the US government is stepping in before some of those models are publicly released.

There are concrete answers — some official, some leaked — and it's worth separating the two.

In Florida, a 12-year-old boy spent two weeks in grief after Character.AI deleted the fictional character he'd talked to every day for eight months. He didn't know it in person. It had no real name. But for that boy it was a daily presence more consistent than any real-life friend.

That means a phone that costs under $200 today will receive official Samsung support until it's six years old — longer than many flagships from brands that promise "extended support" and cut it off at three or four years.

That shift matters. For years, the AI industry competed over who could write better text, answer faster or generate more eye-catching images. Now the battle is moving somewhere else: which model can actually help users complete valuable tasks with fewer mistakes and less supervision.

The market reacted immediately: within 12 hours of launch, gpt-image-2 took first place on Image Arena — the independent image model evaluation leaderboard — with a 242-point lead over second place, the largest margin ever recorded on that benchmark.

That decision is not framed as vague AI-doom messaging. In its own materials, the company says Claude Mythos Preview has already uncovered thousands of severe vulnerabilities, including bugs affecting major operating systems, browsers and widely used software components. Anthropic also says the model showed an unusual ability to reason about exploit chains and, in some cases, develop attack paths with far more autonomy than previous Claude models.

With more than 400 million cumulative downloads across the entire Gemma family since its launch, Gemma 4 arrives in four variants of different sizes designed to run on hardware as varied as a mid-range smartphone, a laptop, a gaming PC with a dedicated GPU or an enterprise server.

The real question is not whether Apple makes the more premium phone. It does. The real question is whether it does enough to justify spending more than twice as much as the Xiaomi alternative.
