Call of Duty hasn't come to a Nintendo platform since the Wii U version of Ghosts in 2013. That changes on October 23, 2026, when Modern Warfare 4 launches natively on Nintendo Switch 2 — developed by Infinity Ward alongside Digital Legends — alongside its PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC releases. PS4 and Xbox One are out entirely.

Pre-orders went live on May 28 across Steam, Battle.net, Xbox Store and PlayStation Store. Players with any previous Call of Duty title on their account get 10% off the Vault Edition. Every pre-order also locks in early access to the Open Beta, date still to be announced.

The new protagonist: Private Park

Modern Warfare 4's campaign introduces Private Park, a young South Korean soldier thrown into live combat for the first time as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of the Korean Peninsula. What starts as a routine patrol descends into chaos as cities collapse and his unit is forced into desperate counteroffensives.

The campaign spans Korea, New York, Paris and Mumbai — trench warfare, close-quarters urban combat, high-speed chases through Paris streets and SAS night raids in Mumbai. Infinity Ward describes this as the emotional breaking point the franchise has been building toward across the rebooted Modern Warfare arc.

Captain Price returns, but not in uniform. He's operating off-the-books, running a personal war from the shadows and staying one step ahead of the people hunting him. When his mission intersects with the forces behind the Korean invasion, the conflict escapes anyone's control.

What's actually new in multiplayer

The headline addition is Kill Block — a map set at the Westbridge Training Facility where the layout physically changes between rounds. Walls move. What worked in round one won't work in round two. Over 500 configurations spread across 3v3 and 10v10 modes make this the most structurally ambitious map design the franchise has ever attempted.

At launch, MW4 ships with 12 core 6v6 maps, dedicated Gunfight areas and multiple large-scale Big War maps for the massive-battle crowd.

The loadout system got a full redesign. One screen now combines your Operator, weapon blueprints, gear and active Killstreaks — no more bouncing between menus. The Gunsmith returns with shared attachments to cut down unlock grinding. A new auto-build tool called Gunny analyzes your playstyle and generates weapon loadout suggestions tailored to how you actually play.

DMZ — the extraction mode that built a dedicated following — is back from day one. Activision hasn't detailed changes yet but confirmed it's in.

PC specifics: confirmed features, missing requirements

The PC version ships with DLSS 4.5 support, expanded real-time ray tracing across Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ, frame generation and upscaling options, and competitive-focused settings tuned for high-performance gaming. Activision called it "more ways to tune performance, visual fidelity, responsiveness, and customization" than any previous CoD PC release.

The official minimum and recommended PC requirements haven't been published yet. Activision typically releases them a few weeks before launch. Based on Black Ops 7's requirements as a baseline, reasonable estimates would be:

Minimum: Windows 11 64-bit, Intel Core i5-10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB RAM, RTX 2060 or RX 6600 XT, 150 GB SSD, DirectX 12, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot required.

Recommended for 1080p 60fps with ray tracing: Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT.

This article will be updated when Activision publishes the official specs.

Context: Black Ops 7 underperformed and the franchise needed this

GameSpot reported that Black Ops 7 had the worst sales-year ranking for the Call of Duty series since 2008. Modern Warfare 4, led by Infinity Ward — the studio that created the Modern Warfare sub-brand — is Activision's answer to that downturn.

One scheduling note worth flagging: MW4 launches exactly one month before GTA 6 on November 19. That October 23 window is deliberate — Activision knows GTA 6 will consume enormous attention in November and is positioning MW4 to land before that wave hits.
