Two helicopters collided in mid-air over western Rio de Janeiro on the morning of Sunday, June 14, 2026, killing all six people on board. Brazilian police confirmed the identities of the victims to AFP. Among them: Argentine content creator Gaspar Prim Díaz, widely known as Gaspi, who was 23 years old.
The helicopter carrying Gaspi — registered as PP-MAC — struck the second aircraft while both were in flight over the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood, then crashed to the ground and exploded. The impact occurred over a commercial strip near residential buildings, which authorities said could have caused even greater casualties on the ground.
Formal identification of the victims was delayed due to severe burns from the impact.
The six victims
Aboard the PP-MAC helicopter: pilot Alexandre Souza, Gaspar Prim Díaz (Gaspi), American musician Oliver Tree (born Nickel Oliver Tree), Brazilian music producer Lucas Brito Chaves (known professionally as Lucas Frota), and Argentine director Lucas Vignale. All five died.
The second helicopter carried a single passenger, Charles Marsillac, who also died.
Oliver Tree was an American alternative pop and rock artist with tens of millions of streams on Spotify, known internationally for his eccentric visual style and genre-blending music. Lucas Vignale was a 28-year-old Argentine filmmaker and music video director whose work included collaborations with Bizarrap, Duki, Wos, Trueno and Nicki Nicole. His debut feature film, El Tren Fluvial, had been selected for the Perspectives section of the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year.
Gaspi and Vignale had traveled to Rio de Janeiro together in the days before the accident and had shared posts from the city on social media.
Who Gaspi was
Instagram post by Gaspi:
Gaspar Prim Díaz built his following from Buenos Aires, where his street interview format — approaching strangers with an exaggerated deep voice and the greeting "buenass" — became his signature. His irreverent humor and viral clips on YouTube and Instagram made him one of the most recognized Argentine content creators of his generation between 2022 and 2025.
His international profile grew in 2025 when he participated in La Velada del Año V, the boxing event between streamers and content creators organized by Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos in Seville, Spain. The event gave him exposure across the broader Spanish-speaking world beyond Argentina.
He was 23 years old.
The response online
The news prompted an immediate outpouring on social media from the Argentine and Latin American creator community. Fellow Argentine creator Davoo Xeneize was among the first to respond publicly: "Very sad and very hard news arriving. You want to believe it's not true but unfortunately it seems it is. Life is very unfair and an accident took Gaspi from us. I have no words. Rest in peace, Gaspi. Strength to all his family."
Brazil's aviation safety record
The crash renews attention on civil aviation safety in Brazil. Before Sunday's accident, the country's Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA) had recorded 84 aviation accidents in 2026 with 25 fatalities. Brazil registers a significant number of small aircraft accidents each year. The investigation into what caused the two helicopters to collide remains open.
