Argentina’s National Social Security Administration (ANSES) confirmed that before the end of January it will pay an unemployment benefit aimed at workers who lost their jobs. The assistance can reach up to $341,000, although the final amount varies according to each individual situation.
This benefit is known as the Unemployment Allowance and is designed for employees who were dismissed without cause or lost their jobs due to company closures or contract terminations. It is not a universal payment, but a temporary monthly income calculated based on previous salaries and social security contributions.
What the unemployment benefit is
The Unemployment Allowance provides financial support to formally employed workers who are no longer working through no fault of their own. Its main purpose is to help cover basic expenses while the beneficiary looks for a new job.
The amount is calculated using the worker’s best average salary prior to dismissal. For that reason, not all beneficiaries receive the maximum amount, and only those with higher contribution histories can reach the $341,000 cap set for January.
Who is eligible
The benefit is available to workers who:
- Were employed under a formal contract and are now legally unemployed.
- Have sufficient registered contributions.
- Do not currently receive income from registered employment.

There are also specific requirements for temporary and construction workers, who must meet minimum contribution thresholds within a defined period.
Payment dates
Payments are made on a monthly basis. In January, ANSES plans to deposit the funds before the end of the month, following a schedule based on the beneficiary’s ID number.
How to apply
The benefit is not granted automatically. Applicants must request it through the Mi ANSES platform using their personal credentials or by scheduling an appointment at an ANSES office.
Once approved, the money is deposited into the declared bank account. Depending on contribution history, the benefit may be paid for several months, offering temporary financial relief during unemployment.
For many households, this assistance represents a key source of income at a time of economic uncertainty.
